Tattoo parlour to hold Mat Lee fundraiser

ALSTONVILLE tattoo parlour The Hammer and Quill will be putting up a different kind of artwork on Saturday to help raise money for Ballina shark attack victim Mat Lee.

The benefit exhibition will feature artworks and prints from 12 artists, which will be sold or auctioned off on the night.

Sense of community

The Hammer and Quill manager Rebecca Sutherland said since her and her partner Anthony Alexander moved to Alstonville to start up the business, they've been overwhelmed by the sense of community.

"We knew Suzy, she made us coffee, and she's just the nicest person, you can't help but want to help out at a difficult time," she said.

"We've got 12 artists who've donated both artworks and prints.

"There's a silent auction for the artworks with a starting price with all the proceeds going to Mat and then he's donating half to Surf Life Saving Australia."

Ms Sutherland said both Mat and his partner Suzy would be at the event.

Ongoing rehabilitation

Mr Lee has ongoing medical and rehabilitation costs following the July shark attack at North Wall in Ballina.

Saturday's fundraiser will also have a raffle with prizes including sports memorabilia, a Z-Flex Jay Adams Master Craft skateboard and a signed Parkway Drive merchandise to name a few.

There's also a $300 tattoo voucher up for grabs.

Quattro has jumped on board supplying wood fired pizza and the Federal Hotel will be supplying non-alcoholic drinks.

Details of event

Live music from the Empty Anchors and Mitch and Justin will be performed.

The three-hour event will start at 6.30pm on Saturday at shop 7/75 Main St Alstonville.
