Taser used to subdue machete man

A MACHETE-wielding man, tasered in a Sydney shopping centre where he allegedly threatened to cut a teenager's throat this week, has been refused bail.

The 23-year-old is accused of assaulting a 17-year-old boy and holding a machete to his throat in a public attack at the Mt Druitt Westfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Police used a taser to subdue to the man after he allegedly refused to drop the knife.

When the man fell to the ground he was arrested and charged with assault and detaining offences.

He fronted the Mt Druitt Court on Wednesday and was refused bail.

The boy escaped with bruising to his face.

Police will allege he was not known to the accused and the attack was random.
