Talented surfers head south

LOCAL surfers Owen Wright and Garrett Parkes have been in action overnight – both posting good results in different contests.

Surfing on the ASP WCT circuit, goofy-footer Wright has blasted his way straight through to round 3 of the Billabong Pro in Jeffreys Bay in South Africa.

The boy who calls Lennox home defeated local Travis Logie and compatriot Drew Courtney to earn himself some relax time as the repechage rounds are surfed.

Parkes, meanwhile, has dominated day two of the Fantastic Noodles Pro Junior at Victor Harbour in South Australia.

In solid six-foot surf Parkes posted an 8.25 for the barrel pictured to tally 16 points from a possible 20.

“My year has sucked as far as contest performances go,” Parkes said.

“But the waves today are probably the biggest and most powerful we’ve had all year on this circuit so it’s good – although it’s very tricky out there, a lot of the waves close out and it’s hard to pick the right ones.”

Both men are in action again today.
