TAFE and NORPA strut their stuff together

AS North Coast TAFE’s fashion event STRUT took place at Lismore City Hall last Friday night another exciting partnership was launched.

NORPA (Northern Rivers Performing Arts) will partner with North Coast TAFE to provide 20-30 internships to local students studying Tourism and Events.

The partnership means students will gain access to a range of opportunities to apply their studies in a practical and professional workplace setting.

NORPA at Lismore City Hall manages a wide range of events ranging from concerts, plays, conferences, and business meetings to outdoor events such as Railway Wonderland.

TAFE Tourism and Events students will work alongside NORPA staff and learn from practicing professionals working in the industry.

“Internships in the region are fairly scarce, especially of the quality offered by this program,” Member for Lismore Thomas George said.

“NORPA is not only recognised here in NSW, it is recognised right throughout Australia, and to have a partnership between NORPA and TAFE is a great opportunity for local students.”

“The internships will help students get workplace ready with practical skills, accredited experience and confidence. Combined with their TAFE training, it will give them a real head start in their careers” said Mary Allan, Director of North Coast TAFE “Our tourism, events and hospitality students will also bring plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the many events NORPA presents.”

“We’re thrilled to be able to give students access to this level of practical experience,” said NORPA General Manager Patrick Healey “The partnership with TAFE is part of our ongoing commitment to support and contribute to our community”

Mayor Jenny Dowell said “Events like Strut at Lismore City Hall are just the tip of the iceberg. Underneath that tip of the iceberg are all the partnerships that web together. NORPA’s connection to the community has never been stronger. Congratulations to NORPA and TAFE for this partnership that will see students get real life experiences.”

Sam Hall, NORPA’s Education and Marketing Coordinator, graduated from North Coast TAFE in 2013 with a Diploma Of Events. “The experience these internships will provide to a student is invaluable. When it comes to learning, nothing beats real hands-on experience with seasoned professionals.”
