Sydney Thunder land England powerhouse

HOT on the heels of the Brisbane Heat landing the mega signature of AB de Villiers, the Sydney Thunder have added some star power of their own.

Controversial England powerhouse Alex Hales will join the Thunder for the upcoming season, with the addition of the former No.1 Twenty20 batsmen in the world sure to be a huge boost for Shane Bond's side.

Hales has played 70 ODIs and 60 T20s for England, but has fallen out of favour in recent times after copping a ban in April for testing positive to cocaine.

However, the 30-year-old enjoyed a strong showing in England's T20 Blast and brings a wealth of experience to Sydney.

"He's one of the best T20 batters in the world," said Bond.

"To have someone of his quality available for the whole tournament for us is a great pick up.

"I spent a little bit of time with him at the Mumbai Indians and came up against him when I coached New Zealand and he smacked us a number of times.

"He's one of the most destructive batters, is an outstanding fielder and is also obviously a highly experienced player."

Hales effectively replaces fellow Englishman Jos Buttler, with the bit-hitting keeper unavailable due to selection on England's tour of South Africa this summer.
