Swimmers learn from top physio

GOONELLABAH Sports and Aquatic Centre's head coach Gary Dardengo believes the recent visit of the Australian Olympic swimming team physiotherapist Peter Wells could lead to more training sessions next year.

Wells spoke to more than 70 people at the centre on how to prevent injuries and enhance body movement for training and competition.

His words were well received, as expected.

"We're not built like fish so Peter used his wealth of inform-ation to teach the kids how to move properly," Dardengo said.

"Hopefully we can have a two-hour session with him next time and get him out here five times next year.

"He's worth a lot of money to host as a guest speaker but we only had to cover his travel expenses."

Others who spoke at theGoonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre included sports dietitian and nutritionist Adelle Purbrick and sports psychologist Laura Stephenson.
