Sweeney adds to tally for Casino Cavaliers

CASINO Cavaliers leading wicket-taker Wade Sweeney continued his good run this season with a five-wicket haul against Tintenbar-East Ballina in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.

Sweeney is the competition's second-highest wicket-taker, having claimed 25 scalps this season.

Cudgen's opening bowler Michael Anderson has taken the most wickets on 26.

"Wade is flying high and has been really good for us this season," Casino captain Al Nowlan said.

"He actually missed the game against Ballina, too."

Sweeney finished with figures of 5-56 off 17 overs to help bowl 'The Bar' out for 231.

The game is evenly poised with the Cavaliers 0-99 in reply.

Opening batsman Dan Moreton is in a position to go on with it on 59 not out.

"I haven't won a toss all season but we've done pretty well on that pitch," Nowlan said.

"We've been finding it hard to get the same team on the field every week but a win here will keep us in the mix for finals."

Elsewhere, a five-wicket haul to left-arm quick Jason Caught helped dismiss the Ballina Bears for a paltry 112 at Fripp Oval, Ballina.

Newcomer Justin Moore was the top run-scorer in his first game of the season for Bears with 41 while the only other player to reach double figures was captain Nathan Anson on 18 runs.

Alstonville are struggling in reply at 7-74.

In other games, Marist Brothers have also had the chance to bat after dismissing Terranora Lakes for 170 at Oakes Oval, Lismore.

They are 1-41 in reply.

Lennox Head opener Mark Denmeade helped his side to a respectable 9-221 (declared) against Murwillumbah at Rabjones Oval, Murwillumbah.

Denmeade scored 46 runs while middle-order batsman Daniel Emms contributed 38.

The bottom-placed Murwillumbah are chipping away at 3-55 in reply.

An unbeaten 63 to Chris Moase helped drag Cudgen to a total of 134 against Pottsville at Seabreeze Oval, Pottsville.

Jamie Bennett did the damage with the ball with an impressive seven-wicket haul from 13.5 overs.

Opening batsman Jayden Hoare is leading the charge on 63 not out with Pottsville 3-83 at stumps.
