Swap day picking up speed
CAR lovers will be in their element this weekend with a chance to show off, swap, buy and sell their most prized possessions at the Lismore Swap Meet.
Hosted by the Borderline Street Rodders Inc car club, the event will be held on Sunday at the Lismore Showground.
The meet will be a family day, as well as a place for car enthusiasts to buy and sell.
Borderline Street Rodders president Brad Goodhand said there would be cars and parts from all kinds of makes and models, as well as motorcycles, memorabilia and knick-knacks on display or for sale.
Mr Goodhand, who is currently restoring his third 1935 Ford, said you never knew what you might find at a swap meet.
People were coming from as far away as Coffs Harbour and Queensland to see what was on offer, he said.
Borderline club member Matt McDonald said general admission was $2, but people with vintage, antique and collectable cars or bikes would be able to showcase their vehicles free of charge in the Show and Shine car show.
Borderline Street Rodders Inc will continue its legacy of contributing a majority of money made on the day to a charitable cause.
In the past the club has donated contributions to the children's hospital, volunteer rescue groups and the Southern Cross Lads.
“Because we are not-for-profit we can use money for any worthy benefit,” he said.
“Last year we contributed about $2000 to the Southern Cross Lads to help them build up their driving training group,” Mr McDonald said.
There will be plenty of food and drink stalls at the event and children under 12 are free.
Outside swap sites are $6 for the day or undercover sites are $15 for the day.
