Surfers get things sizzling
THERE is now an extra barbecue facility behind the Evans Head-Casino Surf Lifesaving Club, thanks to the Evans Head Malibu Club.
The opening of the Tree of Knowledge barbecue behind the surf club was held on Saturday, January 18, by Harry Hann and members of the Evans Head Malibu Club.
The barbecue was built by the club and is for the use of the whole community, and visitors.
The club says it already has proved to be the most popular barbecue site in town for the holiday-makers this year.
The Evans Head Malibu Club would like to thank Harry Hann and Ross Cribb for their work in getting this project off the ground and all the workers who erected the barbecue.
"It is another example of the good works done by the club over many years - over the 23 years the club has been operating it has donated about $45,000 to various causes," a club spokesman said.
The club has also been involved in the construction of various projects in Woodburn and Evans Head over the years.
These include the Woodburn pool, the Evans Head Skate Park and the viewing platform at Main Beach.
The Malibu Classic held each October over the long weekend also raises funds that are donated to various charities.
In 2013, Marine Rescue Evans Head, Westpac Helicopter, Evans Head Surf Club, Disabled Surfing Association and the Mid Richmond Lions Club benefited from the long-weekend event.
The club thanks everyone who bought raffle tickets and shirts and enjoyed a bacon and egg sandwich at the barbecue's opening.
