Support talented mums (and dads) at Lismore family market

THE Northern Rivers Family Market is on tomorrow at the Lismore Turf Club from 9am until 1pm.

This market was created by a group of mums to showcase their small home businesses, and is all about beautiful, handmade items for children and families.

Market director Alexandra Lindsay said the first market was held late last year, and it was a huge success.

"All came out of an idea from an online mums group," she said.

"I noticed that a lot of the mums had small businesses at home that they run through social media ... I thought, what the heck, and so I decided to organise a market."

The family market is a free, undercover event with 40 stalls featuring handmade items by local mums and dads.

Ms Lindsay - who has two children under two - said it was amazing to see the talented people on the Northern Rivers.

"I am pretty passionate about our community and I love to see people in our community succeeding," she said.

"This is about having faith in what you do and building your business so you can continue to stay home with the kids if you want to do that.

"In the last 18 months to two years, social media selling has gone off like wildfire. There are lot of really successful home businesses now.

"People want handmade items and buying from a local mum is supporting a local family."

As well as quality, handmade items, there will also be face painting, food, coffee, music and a jumping castle for the whole family.

The market's charity partner this quarter is the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
