Sunflowers our Saturday giveaway

SUNFLOWERS can do more than brighten up a garden or give you seeds and oil - they can absorb deadly radiation.

The flowers were planted around the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan - sucking up as much radiation in 20 days as would normally fade in 30 years.

Hopefully, you don't have a radiation spill at home, but this Saturday The Northern Star is giving you free sunflower seeds to brighten up your garden.

Through the week we'll have free seeds for zinnias, daisies, snapdragons, a fresh flower mix and petunias. Redeem a token from our paper each day and exchange it for a free packet of seeds from participating newsagents.
