Suncorp sending jobs overseas

QUEENSLAND-based insurer Suncorp will send at least 50 positions offshore, but insists its insurance processing standards will not be affected.

Suncorp today confirmed 50 positions would be outsourced to India, nearly two months after the Finance Sector Union argued up to 3000 jobs could be at risk.

A Suncorp spokesman said 16 positions in Queensland would be among the jobs sent offshore, but the company was also recruiting an extra 100 customer service workers in Australia so frontline delivery would be unaffected.

We've made a decision to partner with an external provider regarding a small number of back-office roles in different parts of Australia that we believe can be more efficiently performed by an external provider," he said.

"We'll be making every effort possible to ensure those people are deployed into other areas of the company."
