Suit-scooter rides the pavement

WHEN Brian McGowran picked up his son's skateboard he knew his journey to and from work would never be the same.

"I'd been walking to work for a couple of years," he said.

"Then I got given a skateboard, I had a go and I loved it."

A video of Brian on his skateboard is expected to be loaded later today.

While the respected Rockhampton lawyer from McGowran Lawyers, might get a few funny looks as he rolls his way along the riverbank, the 42-year-old said it sure beat wearing cycle pants.

"At least I don't have to wear lycra like the cyclists," he said.

Mr McGowran said the trip from his home in Wandal to his East St office took him about 15 minutes on his Z-Flex longboard.

"I can pretty much go from the middle of outside the showgrounds to the crossing at the Brothers Leagues Club without touching the ground," he said.

"The other good part is down the ramp at the riverside car park.

"I like to wait until there's an audience, then whip down there."

Mr McGowran said he'd endured his fair share of stacks, but thankfully none of them had been seen by anyone.

He encouraged others to give it a go.

"When you have those mornings when you wake up and don't want to go to work, just chuck on a pair of headphones, jump on a skateboard and by the time you get to work you're looking forward to the day," he said.

"It puts you in a different mindframe."
