Success in first grand final

PLAYING your first ever grand final can be a scary experience - but Jacinta Nicolas did herself proud.

The 12-year-old was among the stars of Ballina Netball Association's deciding day of action, helping her Lennox Head Bellbirds share the 12 Years title.

Emmanuel Anglican College K-12 School student Jacinta has only been playing the sport about a year.

Although she confessed to a few nerves during Saturday's match, the Year 6 pupil said she had enjoyed her first taste of a grand final showdown.

"At the start of the match I was excited, but as it got close to the end it got nerve-racking," she said.

"There was a lot of cheering and screaming (from people watching). It helped us because they were helping us do what we needed to so.

"I like playing for this team as they are nice and friendly. Everyone encourages you.

"I will come back next year."

The Bellbirds were joint winners of the 12 Years title with Lennox Head Eagles after the two sides drew 15-all.

Titles were decided in the other age groups on a packed day of competition.
