Study shows dogs poo in alignment with magnetic field

SCIENTISTS in Europe have spent two years studying the toileting habits of dogs, discovering that canines defecate and urinate in alignment with the earth's magnetic field.

"In this study, we provide the first clear and simply measurable evidence for influence of geomagnetic field variations on mammal behavior," it says.

"Furthermore, it is the first demonstration of the effect of the shift of declination, which has to our knowledge never been investigated before."

However, the study failed to find a reason for the strange doggy behaviour.

"It is still enigmatic why the dogs do align at all, whether they do it consciously or whether its reception is controlled on the vegetative level," the report stated.

However, the light-hearted nature of the report comes with a more upsetting element - the recommendation for using dogs in biomedical lab experiments.

"A discovery of magnetoreception in dogs would open totally new horizons for magnetobiological research: Dogs are widely available experimental subjects all over the world and can easily be trained to react on diverse sensory stimuli," the report says.
