Student careers in accounting

FORTY-FIVE students from Southern Cross University (SCU) and TAFE attended the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia annual Lismore CareerConnect networking event at SCU last Wednesday.

The aim of the evening was to educate the students about the Chartered Accountants Program and to provide an opportunity for both university and TAFE students to network and interact with local chartered accounting firms as well as academia.

Many local firms attended, including Blackburn Prior, LaFaro Accountants, Mulherin Schier, Rochdale Financial Services, Thomas Noble & Russell and Wappetts and WHK.

According to prominent local chartered accountant and the Institute's Regional Chair for NSW North Coast, Adam Bradfield, networking events were extremely valuable for students and also region's accounting firms.

"Students are able to gain a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them and they are often surprised about the prospects a professional career can bring them locally, nationally and internationally all from a regional centre in Lismore." he said.

"This is also an opportunity for local firms to attract and retain local talent."
