ELUSIVE rebel street artist Banksy has released a sure-to-go-viral video as part of his month-long self-described 'artist's residency on the streets of New York'.

During the October 'residency' he has endeavoured to present a new piece of art each day.

For the latest entry on his website the artist wrote, "I'm not posting any pictures today. Not after this shocking footage has emerged."

The video shows men dressed in military and Middle Easter garb launch a surface-to-air missile.

The missile hits its intended target, which practically falls to the feet of the fighters and seemingly causing electrical interference with the video camera.

Once the dust settles a surprising scene is revealed.
