Stoyle will have to fire in Hawaii

BUDERIM'S Dimity Stoyle is likely to be faced with an acid test in the final ASP World Championship Tour event in Hawaii next month.

The 22-year-old has experienced a solid maiden campaign on the world stage but is likely to need a strong result at the Target Maui Pro to qualify for next year's tour.

The top 10 on this year's 17-woman, 10-stop tour earn automatic entry into next season.

Stoyle went into the penultimate event, the Cascais Women's Pro in Portugal, in ninth place but bowed out in the second round on Friday, so could slip further down the standings when rating points are tallied at the end of the competition. It was scheduled to host its latter rounds overnight.

The tour's 10th-placed surfer, Laura Enever, was eliminated in round four but 11th-placed Courtney Conlogue was still in contention last night.

Surfers can drop their two worst results from the year.
