Stoyle wins Lennox Head showdown

SUNSHINE Coast girl Dimity Stoyle left Lennox Head with the spoils after claiming the open pro in the All Girls Surf Showdown at the weekend.

The Queenslander entered the final needing to defeat three New South Wales surfers with Airini Mason of Cabarita and Lennox Head's Wright sisters, Tyler and Kirby, the challengers.

The final went down to the wire but Stoyle saved her best until last, pulling out the top score of the day – a 9.0 – with two minutes remaining to steal the victory.

“I knew I required a great score on that final ride and the wave lined up really well and I sort of threw caution to the wind, went for some big moves and stuck them,” Stoyle said.

“I felt good when I finished the ride and even better when I realised that wave won the final for me.”

Stoyle picked up a handy $1000 for the win and she will resume her competitive season when she travels to South Australia for the Fantastic Noodles Pro Junior next month.

But gauging by her excitement, you would imagine she will be back to defend her All Girls title in 2011.

“It's a fantastic event here at Lennox, the waves have been great and the standard of girls' surfing all weekend has been amazing,” she said.

Mason claimed second spot in the open pro while Tyler Wright finished third and Kirby Wright fourth.

Stoyle joins an illustrious list of winner of the event alongside Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Samantha Cornish and Tyler Wright.

Stylish Ballina surfer Melissa Combo won the longboard pro after fighting off the challenge from Kirsty Webster in the final.

The other successful local was Byron Bay's Jenny Boggis, who took out the Over-28 division.
