Stoyle books quarter-final spot

COAST sensation Dimity Stoyle has returned to form in style and in the process booked a quarter-final berth against world No.2 Sally Fitzgibbons at the Hunter Ports Women's Classic at Newcastle today.

Stoyle's bid to crack the elite ASP World Championship Tour next year will be given a big boost if she progresses today.

She produced an eight-point ride yesterday to advance to the round of 12 at the six-star event at Merewether Beach.

"Sally's the world No.2, so it's going to be a really hard heat," Stoyle said.

"Courtney Conlogue (Stoyle's other opponent in the quarters) is on the world tour as well, so I'm going up against two world tour surfers … it's going to be tough.

"I'll just go in and do my thing and see how I go."

Whatever happens, Stoyle has renewed confidence after a disappointing showing at her only other six-star contest this year, last month's Australian Open at Manly - the opening event of the season.

"At the first event you want to do well. That didn't happen (but) I'm getting back into it now," she said.
