Storms brewing after high summer temperatures

SEVERE thunderstorm warning for large hailstones, heavy rainfall and damaging wind for people in parts of the Northern Rivers has been issued this afternoon by the Bureau of Meteorology.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.

Temperatures across the Northern Rivers were well into the 30s today with the BOM’s highest recorded in Grafton at 37.4 followed by Casino at 37.3.

Lismore came in third place with 35.1 and Evans Head at 33.5.

Ballina and Byron Bay were saved somewhat by sea breezes recording 30.5 and 27.1 respectively.

The next warning is due to be issued by 7.55 pm.
