Storms across parts of NSW every day this week: BOM

SOUTHERN New South Wales can expect wild weather for the rest of the week, with storms expected to reach northern parts of the state by Sunday.

Tom Saunders, senior meteorologist with The Weather Channel, said there will be storms across parts of NSW every day this week.

The storm outbreak will peak Tuesday with widespread thunderstorms set to explode across most of the state.

"The week's storm outbreak began during the weekend and continued yesterday as storms fired up over the central and northern ranges," he said.

"Severe storms are likely this afternoon which could include Sydney, due to an ideal mix of atmospheric instability, moisture and wind shear. The storms are likely to cause severe weather over the south-east quarter of the state including; very heavy rain which could trigger flash flooding, large hail and gale force winds."

He said thunderstorms would again develop over NSW on Wednesday, with severe storms possible along the slopes and ranges.

"On Thursday thunderstorms will contract mainly to the ranges but a new bout of storms will develop across southern NSW on Friday and Saturday before spreading to northern NSW on Sunday," Mr Saunders said.

"The New South Wales storm season typically runs from September to mid autumn with Sydney's peak frequency in November, when the city averages four days of thunder," he concludes.
