Storage sheds targeted in raid

A BALLINA couple was shocked to find their storage shed had been robbed and that the thief may have attempted to sell the stolen property right under their noses.

On Saturday morning, 18 rental storage sheds at the Ballina Industrial Estate in Clark Street were broken into and various items stolen.

A couple who rents one of the sheds, who asked not to be named, said they had a generator stolen and neighbouring sheds had jewellery and electrical goods taken.

The couple said they later made enquiries at a nearby pawnbroking business and an attendant confirmed that a man had come into the store looking to hock a generator that matched the description of the missing item.

Inspector Mick Dempsey said the incident occurred between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday.

“A number of storage sheds were broken into, but it doesn't appear that much property wastaken. Only two victims have contacted police,” he said.

“A forensic officer attended the site and conducted fingerprinting examinations.”
