State road toll rises to 10

A THREE-car crash on a notorious stretch of the Pacific Hwy on Monday morning took the NSW holiday road death toll to 10.

A 23-year-old mean died when his car collided with two others at the Iluka turn-off the on the State's north coast.

An elderly couple were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Nine others have died since midnight on December 23 while 430 have been hurt in 1351 major crashes across the state.

On Monday police booked 797 speeding drivers and handed out 940 infringement notices as part of Operation Safe Arrival.

Out of 33,861 roadside breath tests, 37 were charged with drink-driving.
