Star swamped with bushfire appeal donations

THE Northern Star offices from coast to country continue to be inundated with donations from generous readers to help the victims of the Victorian bushfires.

The Northern Star receptionist at the Goonellabah Media Centre Jill Roder said many people had come in saying how touched they were by what they were reading in the newspaper.

“One man came in today with two cartons of lemon myrtle soap and another woman has donated a $10,000 wheelchair,” Mrs Roder said.

“People have been overwhelmed by the sadness down there and they feel for the people. It has really touched their hearts.”

The Northern Star appeal organiser Sherilee Matthews is asking for everyday items, such as linen and toiletries.

Donations of goods and non-perishable food can be left at The Northern Star offices in Goonellabah, Lismore, Casino, Ballina and Byron Bay.
