Stanton Warriors make the party

SUNDAY Safari is fast becoming the go-to event for a mix of live music and on-the-money DJs.

This time was a little different. Teaming up with Black Angus (Sneaky Sound System) and Dangerous Dan (Modular) for You Only Live Once, the event was a solid dance line-up.

As it was a Thursday the crowd took a little longer to build than the previous Sunday sessions.

Jimmy2Sox (James Lyell, one half of Flight Facilities), Dangerous Dan, Black Angus, Riton (Henry Smithson) and Beni each took their turn at the helm in the peaceful surrounds of the outside area at The Byron Bay Brewery.

Back inside later in the day UK break beat master A Skillz and surprise guests and fellow Brits Stanton Warriors turned the usually chilled venue into a rave cave.

Though Jimmy2Sox is renowned for banging dance tracks earlier in his career his set featured much of the house groove he is now known for as part of the Flight Facilities duo.

The next slot was filled with a mash of DJs each taking short slots at the decks.

Byron Bay is a well known holiday destination and, other than Jimmy2Sox, who held his own for his time slot and much of the others' also, the crew was in heightened holiday mode.

Beni, who released House Of Beni in September with several singles receiving heavy airplay and a likely spot in Triple J's Hottest 100, didn't play any tracks from the release.

Riton and an unknown friend spent too long playing R'n'B hits they sang along to before the ship was steered back on course by Black Angus and Jimmy2Sox.

Though Tiga was rumoured to play, he was overheard telling a punter he had no intention of getting behind the decks.

Inside was a different story. A Skillz and Stanton Warriors were there to put on a show. From the bottom level of heaving bodies to the top level of flailing arms, the air inside The Brewery was thick with the heat of a hundred sweating bodies.

Warriors finished off the night with much of the crowd getting their rave on.

Renowned as a dub act, they put their all into a set of their own hits (Get Up and Turn Me Up from last year's self-titled release) and varied mixes including Girl Talk's Oh No.

Inside was where the party was at.
