Staff re-employment up in the air

STAFF at Farmer Charlies will know “in a day or two” whether they have any hope of being re-employed at the food retailer, which suspended trading last week.

After weeks of speculation about the future of the business, 50 workers across three stores learnt the shocking truth last Wednesday – that the company was going into administration and that they would be out of work.

Farmer Charlies operated outlets in Lismore, Ballina and Evans Head.

Last week the administration firm PPB Advisory said there were four parties interested in buying the business and there was a possibility a new owner would be able to re-instate some of the staff.

Mark Roufeil, a PPB director, spent Saturday and yesterday dealing with several interested parties, “but I don’t want to be putting things out prematurely”.

He would know more “in a day or two”, Mr Roufeil said.
