Square shop tops pecking order
GLEN and Cindy Creighton returned to the Northern Rivers 10 years ago for the stability of their children's schooling.
They bought the Lismore franchise of the nationwide chain of Lenard's Chicken, a business venture that has brought them one recognition of achievement after another.
Most recently, they took out the Regional Franchise Owner of the Year award for the Gold Coast area.
"It's nice to be formally recognised for something our customers are always telling us," said Ms Creighton.
Customer approval is based on the display of the store's products, and the consistent delivery of fresh chicken, but also things like waiting times, she said.
The couple also won the Lismore Square overall retail award for excellence earlier this year.
"Two awards in one year must mean we're doing something right," said Ms Creighton.
In January this year, the Creightons marked the 10-year anniversary of their Lismore Square store by taking on the management of Lenard's Carindale - a challenge they describe as "an exciting new venture".
A Lenard's spokesperson said the company introduced the awards "to acknowledge outstanding franchise owners who achieve the high standards the Lenard's brand represents, nationally and regionally".
"We continue to be delighted by the very high standards our franchisees deliver," said the founder and director, Lenard Poulter.
With almost 200 outlets in the chain, Lenard's is Australia's largest chicken retailer, employing more than 2000 staff.
It is 100% Australian-owned. In 2008, Blue Sky Private Equity bought a minority stake in Lenard's Group Holdings Pty Ltd to help fuel its expansion plans.
Lenard's also recently formalised an alliance with grocery and liquor wholesaler Metcash Limited to expand Lenard's concept through the IGA Fresh network.
