Spectators the big winners at speedway

SPECTATORS could be the big winners just by attending Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway this season.

Promoter David Lander announced details during the 2017-18 season launch at the Lismore Workers Club yesterday.

Another big season of racing starts tomorrow night and anyone who buys a program has the chance to win the top prize of a three-night stay at the five-star Peppers Soul Resort on the Gold Coast at the end of the season.

"There will be four names drawn, two from each box per night, and that gives the recipients a family pass to our next meeting,” Lander said.

"The four winning entries at each meeting then go into a third box which will be drawn on the final night of the season with first, second and third prizes.”

Second prize is a $600 entry voucher to Gold Coast theme parks and third prize is a season pass to Lismore Speedway for the 2018-19 season.

Castrol Edge Lismore Showground will soon reach its 50th year of operation as a speedway venue after having opened as a race track in 1969.

There have been a number of promoters and with Lander having been there for the past 10 years, he is one of the longest-serving lease holders running speedway.

"Though a little time off, we are planning a special publication to honour the track's 50 years,” he said.

He also said some of his major race car categories would be featured in a 50-lap Golden Jubilee main event in the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, the V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor's Cup tomorrow night will open the 2017-18 season.

The Wingless Sprints this season will race for honours in the Lismore Workers Club-sponsored Driver to America series with 16 nights of racing between through to May.
