South Tweed robber at large

THE man who robbed the National Australia Bank in Tweed Heads South this morning and then escaped into Tweed City Shopping Centre is still on the loose.

Tweed police have flooded the Tweed Heads South CBD but are remaining tight-lipped about the weapon used in the 10am attack.

Inspector Brad Stewart said a man aged in his 20s entered the Minjungbal Dr bank around 10am armed with an "object."

He threatened staff and obtained a small amount of money before fleeing the bank leaving no one physically injured.

He then ran into Tweed City Shopping Centre.

"Police have saturated the shopping centre and we're viewing CCTV of the bank and Tweed City," Insp Stewart said.

"Anyone who was near the bank or Tweed City around 10am this morning who saw anyone acting suspiciously should contact us immediately."

The man has been described as aged 23 or 24, Caucasian, about 180cm tall with a medium build.
