Softball: Rangers and Condors take the points
ROUS Rangers were led by two home runs and a triple from Sam Dowse to over whelm Dodgers Devils 9-3 in Far North Coast Division 1 softball on Saturday.
Rous' Sue Clarke pitched well to Loris Gordon, who caught solidly.
Dodgers' Shannon Holgate followed up on the mound from Kayleen Shailes with both pitchers doing well.
Selina Atkinson took two good catches at centrefield, while Clare Busch at second base and Fiona McCloud at third base were instrumental in numerous outs in the infield for Dodgers.
Nadine Tonellio at first base was prominent for Rangers throughout.
In the other Division 1 game, Leah Van Wettering led Workers well from the pitcher's mound in a 10-0 win over Ballina Tiger Sharks.
She made a double play for the first two outs, made three other outs and struck out three.
Van Wettering also contributed with the bat with two safe hits.
Shortstop Deirdre Coe was the outstanding player for Workers.
For Ballina, Lee Hooley pitched well and was supported in the field by Mel Delaney at left field.
Blues Sistas drew with Woodburn Wonders 13-13.
Katrina Alexander produced a fine double play, catching the ball at third base and throwing to second for the out.
Catcher Nicole Andrew had a strong game, Kasey Donnelly hit a three-bagger and Leonie Creighton pitched well for Woodburn.
Rous Warriors and Woodburn Whippets had a close game until the fifth innings when Rous got bat to ball and went on to win.
Esther Denning pitched well for Rous and Tracey Cook took a terrific catch at third base.
Whippets shortstop Shantarna Berry opened the game with a home run and had a great game in the field.
Lauren Forrester and Olivia Snow shared pitching duties for Workers Wild Turkeys when they defeated Dodgers Demons 21-9.
Regular pitcher Lyn McDonald was injured last week.
Forrester had a great match with a triple play at shortstop, taking the catch, putting out the runner at second then throwing the runner out at first.
Woodburn Whippets' catch-up match against Goonellabah ended in a 12-all tie draw.
Goonellabah's Mandy Brown came up with two three-base hits and Whippets' Carol Ryan hit a home run.
