A saucy new television advertisement for Sunshine Coast soft drink company Wimmers is proving too hot for some to handle.
The cheeky 30-second spot, which can air only late on weeknights and during live sporting events, is getting plenty of people talking about the Cooroy company and not all of it has been positive.
The ad, complete with titillating music, insinuates a man would sleep with his mate's girlfriend, but wouldn't drink his last bottle of Wimmers soft drink.
Company owner Peter Lavin said it was the most successful advertisement they had run despite the mostly negative feedback.
"I expected some complaints but not as much as we got," Mr Lavin said.
"It's got people talking, whether negative or positive, and that's what we're trying to do. It's been our most successful ad. It's even led to a few new accounts for us.
"I'm happy with the ad and the attention it's received. Our others have been pretty docile and didn't get much of a reaction."
The advertisement was the brainchild of Mr Lavin, who said he had a "twisted sense of humour".
It is airing in the Sunshine Coast, Mackay, Cairns and Townsville markets and is due to go to air in Brisbane shortly.
Mr Lavin said the advertisement was to show the company was not dead and buried after a tumultuous 12 months.
"This is about attracting a younger market, anyone from the teenagers up to the 35-year-olds," he said.
"I think we've hit the nail on the head. Our sales have been up after the ad."
Viewers have taken to the company's Facebook page to comment.
One user said it was "poor in every aspect, an absolute atrocity and I feel overwhelming embarrassment for your company, the actors and all parties involved".
One user said the ad was "brilliant and hilarious. I'm trying to find a clip of it so I can show my friends".
A spokeswoman for the Advertising Standards Bureau said it had received one complaint about the ad.
"It will be considered by the Advertising Standards Board at its next meeting," the spokeswoman said.
Mr Lavin said he was working on ideas for the next advertisement.
