Social benefits of dredging project
BALLINA Shire Council will proceed with sediment investigations for the dredging of North Creek.
A motion was put forward at the last Ballina council meeting, noting the total cost of the project to be about $729,000.
An amendment was passed to note the estimated total cost of the project, for the council to write to the New South Wales Government with a request for part or full funding.
The estimated cost of sediment investigations was between $60,000 and $100,000.
A previous scope study identified the potential amount of material that could be dredged, the environment impacts and the planning and approval options.
The study found the project to be economically feasible, albeit expensive, with a range of social and other benefits that could potentially be achieved if the dredging was successful.
