Soccer referees honoured

TEN of the current 12 Far North Coast soccer referees gathered on Saturday night for the annual referees dinner.

Luke Mackney was inducted as life member.

The group also included Barry Such, who is currently the chair of the national A-League match review panel and is also the acting head of referees for Football Queensland.

Such is formerly from Lismore and also a life member of the FNC Referees.

He spoke on Saturday night, commending Mackney and Ben Haigh, who have been appointed to the National Youth League panel, along with Tanya De Boer, who is on the W-League panel.

Such told the young referees that the opportunities that exist in soccer for Australian referees have never been better and he urged them to use the examples of Mackney, Haigh and De Boer as role models.
