Teacher accused of sending Snapchat to underage girl

A TOOWOOMBA high school teacher accused of sending sexually explicit messages to an underage girl has had charges against him adjourned.

The 35-year-old teacher, who cannot be named for legal reasons and has been suspended from the school since his arrest in August, was not in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday for the mention of his matters.

He has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (indecent film etc.) as the charges read on the court list.

Police claim he sent indecent Snapchats to a 15-year-old girl student.

No details of the case have as yet been aired in court.

Solicitor Sarah Gordon, acting on behalf of the man's legal representatives from a Brisbane-based law firm, told the court she had been instructed to ask for an adjournment.

The police brief of evidence pertaining to the case was now available but the accused's solicitors would need time to go through the brief with their client and take instructions, she said.

The accused man remains on bail with strict conditions including having no contact with the complainant girl or going within 100m of the school in question.

Magistrate Damian Carroll adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on January 19.
