Smiles fill the children's ward as Christmas spirit arrives

SICK children and their families have been given something to smile about at Lismore Base Hospital this week thanks to Captain Starlight, Greater Bank, and Our Kids.

On Tuesday, representatives from Greater Bank and Our Kids delivered presents collected through the 'Greater Christmas for Our Kids' campaign.

This coincided with Captain Starlight's final visit for 2016, making it a memorable morning for everyone on the Children's Ward.

As well as their usual shenanigans and activities such as face painting, card playing and craft, Captain Starlight will provide some carol singing on the morning.

On the day, Vanessa Restall, Greater Bank branch manager Lismore, together with colleagues from Greater Bank branches in Ballina and Casino, also presented a $5000 donation to Our Kids on behalf of Greater Bank's Northern Rivers customers.

This donation will be put towards the purchase of a paediatric BP machine for the Children's ward.

"We sincerely want to thank all our generous customers and community members who have donated presents through three local Greater Bank branches at Lismore, Casino and Ballina,” Vanessa Restall said.

"The Children's Ward currently needs three paediatric BP machines and we felt that our donation would provide the biggest advantage for those who need it right now.

"As a locally operating customer-owned bank, our focus is on customers and community; and Christmas is an important time for the community to come together to support one another.”

Our Kids fundraising co-ordinator, Rebekka Battista, noted how difficult it was for anyone to be in hospital over Christmas, particularly for kids, and praised Greater Bank for their partnership in delivering some Christmas cheer.

"We have a mixture of children and teenagers in the Children's Ward over the festive season, and what better way to bring cheer than with a present,” Ms Battista said.

Captain Starlight is making a final visit to Lismore Base Hospital for 2016 thanks to Greater Bank's Charitable Foundation which funds regular visits to the hospital and six other regional NSW hospitals.

Greater Bank staff volunteer to help Captain Starlight at some visits.
