Slater: Manchester duo poised to challenge Chelsea for title

THE Premier League title race is wide open, according to former Socceroo Robbie Slater.

Here he picks his Premier League teams to beat, bolter to watch out for and the clubs set for relegation.

TOP SIX

Manchester City - Pep Guardiola's made some big signings and already has quality all over the park. Yes, they've lost some players too, but they still have the prolific Sergio Aguero and have a squad capable of challenging in the Premier League and Champions League.

Manchester United - Romelu Lukaku is a very good signing and Nemanja Matic is a brilliant pick-up from Chelsea. So Jose Mourihno has strengthened in the areas he's needed to and they look stronger and will challenge for the title.

Chelsea - The Blues were a powerhouse last season, especially when Antonio Conte changed to a back three - there was simply no looking back. Diego Costa is still there, despite all the rumours, but those could return to unsettle the dressing room.

Liverpool - The Reds have added Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, but they haven't signed nearly enough players to be challenging for the title. And if they lose Philippe Coutinho between now and the end of the transfer window they won't reach the top four.

Arsenal - It will be another season of pain for Arsenal with possibly more protests over Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager should have left after winning the FA Cup at the end of last season.

Tottenham - It looks like a mistake that it hasn't strengthened its squad, though perhaps it still will before the season kicks off. Spurs had a terrific campaign last season and had it been any other season they would have won it.

BOLTER

Everton - Ronald Koeman has done a fantastic job and the signing of Wayne Rooney is magical for the player and the club. They've already got off to a good start with a 1-0 win in the Europa League.

RELEGATION

Huddersfield Town - Aaron Mooy has been one of its big signings and he was terrific last season, but it's going to be a tough one in the Premier League for it. Make no mistake, for teams like Huddersfield success is staying up.

Brighton and Hove Albion - Although in my bottom three, I see this as a great opportunity for Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan as he's going to be very busy. Even if it doesn't avoid relegation, Ryan will have plenty of opportunity to show what he's about.

Burnley - It was a decent season for it last time, but this one will be far tougher and it hasn't signed the quality to keep its status in the Premier League.
