Sky's the limit for Magpies in new AFL Women's league

AFL: Collingwood women's coach Wayne Siekman isn't putting a ceiling on what he wants his side to achieve in its inaugural season - he wants a berth in the big dance.

Siekman said the plan all along has been to play on the season's last day in eight weeks' time and all is tracking towards executing that.

"Our plan from day one is to make the Grand Final. You can't win a premiership unless you make the Grand Final, so we're planning to play in eight weeks' time,” he said.

"That's the goal of this club and the players and the coaching staff. There's no point hiding from that - the other seven teams are probably saying the same thing.

"But that's something we've got to do ... players will go through that process and if we can ensure that players play their role and continue to develop and improve, we'll see what we can achieve.”

The Magpies' season-opening clash with Carlton on Friday night has had to be moved to Ikon Park to accommodate demand, with Siekman confident his charges can shut out the hype and enjoy the experience for what it is - a piece of AFL history.

"They know about it - I don't think I need to continually talk about it,” he said.

"They're enjoying their moments and embracing it with their teammates and their family and friends.”
