Skipper Hartley leads from the front

CRICKET: Queensland skipper Chris Hartley has helped his team to an imposing first-innings score in its Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania at the Gabba, scoring a class century.

The 36-year-old veteran hit 102 not out as the Bulls declared on 9-405 on day two just after lunch in Brisbane.

The home team had resumed on 6-251 after Joe Burns hit 83 on the first day.

Hartley was unbeaten on 31 overnight and his ton came up after 200 balls.

His innings lasted almost five hours and included nine fours and one six.

It was his 10th first-class ton and first of the Shield season in his return from a broken finger that forced him to miss the Big Bash League.

Hartley was going for history in the Tigers' innings.

He is just two victims away from breaking Darren Berry's record of 546 Shield dismissals by a wicketkeeper.
