Skennars Head brothers to compete at Wahu Groms
SKENNARS Head brothers Jack and Harry O'Brien will be among those competing at the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps at the Gold Coast on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The event is returning to the Gold Coast, with more than 100 competitors across seven divisions.
Harry will be looking to defend his victory in the Under 10 boys division while Jack will be looking to improve from a second place finish in the Under 12 boys division made late this year at Event 5 on the Sunshine Coast.
The O'Brien brothers' task won't be made easy - the boys will shape up to some of Australia's best up and coming talent also seeking that all-important first place victory in their stacked divisions.
Surfing Queensland spokesman Cory Roberts said it was great to see the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps return to the Gold Coast.
"The series not only attracts a pool of talent across all divisions but a large demographic of young grommets taking their first steps into competitive surfing within a fun environment," he said.
"It's also a great reminder of those early memories as a young surfer which is often taken for granted by those more experienced surfers."
The series is one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers.
The 10-event program caters for micro groms from Under 8 through to Under 14 with events in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
Each entrant receives a Wahu Surfer Groms Comps t-shirt and a Wahu beach product, and there are plenty of beach games and giveaways at the events.
The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps are supported by Surfing Australia and Surfing Queensland.
Competitors and spectators can call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline after 6.30am each morning of competition for a confirmed start time and location. Phone (07) 3030 6388.
