Six fires burning between Grafton and the Queensland border

RURAL Fire Service is responding to and monitoring several grass and bush fires that are burning across the Northern Rivers.

An under-control bush fire is burning near the Bruxner Hwy at Sandy Hill near Drake.

Further west, another bush fire, also under control, is burning near Sawyers Gully Rd at Woodside west of Tenterfield.

Residents near Thompsons Rd in the Clarence Valley north of Yamba are likely to see smoke from an under-control bush fire being handled by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

In Tweed, National Parks and Wildlife is also responding to a bush fire on Cooradilla Rd at Burringbar, inland from Pottsville.

Near the Border Ranges National Park, Rural Fire Service are handling a grass fire at Gradys Creek at The Risk.

A grass fire is also burning at Lindesay St, Woodenbong, north of Urbenville.

The Far North Coast, North Coast and New England fire regions are all sitting on very high fire danger ratings.

NSW Rural Fire Service Northern Rivers Zone is reminding residents and landowners that all fire permits in the area are suspended.

"Please ensure if you have been burning, your fire is out," the organisation alerted people via its social media page.

"Fresh to strong winds are expected ahead of a southerly change."

The southerly change is expected this afternoon or evening.
