Simply the best: NRRRL leading players so far this season

NORTHERN Star sports editor Mitchell Craig names five of the best players he's seen in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League competition this season.

DYLAN MONTGOMERY (BALLINA)

Montgomery is still the best front-rower in the competition and a big reason why Ballina has won its first four games.

He can run over the top of most packs and it often takes numerous defenders to get him down and prevent a quick play-the-ball.

ALWYN ROBERTS (NORTHERN UNITED)

The Northern United lock is always in the thick of things at the Dirawongs.

He will often run the ball twice in a set of six and would lead the tackle count most weeks.

JARED DE THIERRY (TWEED COAST)

Brilliant kicking game and guided Tweed Coast to its first win of the season against Byron Bay at the weekend.

He had a hand in most tries and will be crucial in how far the Raiders go in its first year back in the competition since 2011.

NATHAN WALMSLEY (EVANS HEAD)

Came to the club from England last year and looks even better this season since switching from fullback to hooker.

Repaid the faith coach Josh Cook showed in moving him by leading the tackle count in their first two games.

CALEB ZIEBELL (CUDGEN)

Tall front-rower who moves around the field well for a big man.

Carrying a big workload in the forwards especially after Pat Rosser's injury.
