Sign-on for the All Girls surfriders

DO you reckon surfing might be worth a go?

If so, the All Girls Surfriders Club is about to hold its sign-on for its 2014 competition season.

Co-president Georgia Laddin said the club was "invaluable for promoting women's surfing in an empowering and supportive environment".

She said the club now had 80 members and was keen to increase that number.

"It is just empowering for females to be surfing and supporting each other," she said.

"We think being in All Girls is incredible special. The friendships that you make and everything that comes from it is wonderful.

"We welcome everyone to come along."

The all-female club, which is based at Lennox Head, has divisions for opens, longboards, Under-13s, Under-18s, Over-35s, senior beginners and Starfish (parent assisted).

Members need their own surfboard and must be able to stand up on it. They need to be able to swim and be independent in the water.

Club rounds are held on the fourth Sunday of the month at beaches from Broken Head to Evans Head.

Registration and girls introduction day is on Sunday, February 16, from 8.30am to 10.30am. There will be beginner surfing tips on surf awareness, etiquette in competition and rules.

The first club round is set down for Lennox Head on Sunday, February 23, with participants to meet on the beach just south of the Lennox Point Hotel at 7am for sign-on.
