Sick, contempt act by ailing Government

THE decision of the NSW Health Minister John Della Bosca to hop on a plane and come to Lismore yesterday to tell us we now have 11 new jobs in North Coast Area Health shows how out of touch this State Government is with its constituents.

After this same government decided to slash 400 health jobs from our region why would announcing 11 new jobs get us jumping up and down?

I am sure the health services industry will be so thankful they will erect a monument to Della Bosca in the heart of Lismore.

While we should never look a gift horse in the mouth this smacks of arrogance and contempt for our health system.

Della Bosca said the government was following the recommendations of the Garling Report, but there were a lot more recommendations in that report than simply giving us back 11 jobs.

How many more recommendations will this government choose to take up or ignore at their own convenience?

Della Bosca told the media ‘The NSW health system, like every public system is under pressure, particularly with the global financial crisis and other budget pressures’.

What he didn’t say was the NSW health system was under pressure before the global financial crisis hit
mainly due to the incompetence of his government.

Giving us 11 new jobs certainly won’t fix it - not even close.
