WOODENBONG teen Sherentai Hippi has been selected in the Australian 18 Years Girls' Team to tour the United States next year.

Her selection follows her high-powered performance at the recent 16 Years Girls National Schools Futsal Championships in Bendigo where the Far Northern NSW Strikers were champions.

Sherentai, (pictured), was named Australian All Stars goalie at the championships, and was later advised by the Australian Futsal Association that she was among the best futsal players in Australia.

The 15 year old has natural talent; her only little experience was two games prior to selection for the Bendigo championships and games played there.

Dad, Wayne said he and mum, Thurlus are extremely proud of Sherentai and everything she's becoming.

"I'd been away for two days with work; Sherentai and her mother drove out to meet me so she could let me know," he said.

"Her mum and I both grew up on small Aboriginal missions without the opportunities that she has. We're all so proud and enjoying an incredible high at the moment.

"We want to be there to watch her play in July but coming up with around $25,000 to get there is a worry, so we're looking for sponsorship, even corporate sponsorship."

All players in the team will receive training from experienced Australian coaches to hone their skills, game play, teamwork and futsal knowledge.

The Australia team will compete against representative teams from San Francisco.
