Shaun Hyde not guilty over Kyogle death

A KYOGLE man who allegedly king-hit a man outside a hotel causing a fatal brain injury has been found not guilty of manslaughter.

Shaun Robert Hyde was initially charged with murder and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm over the assault of Daryl Close in November 2011.

After being punched in the face by then 29-year-old Hyde, Mr Close, 35, fell to the ground and hit his head, causing a fatal brain injury.

He died in Gold Coast hospital on November 19, a week later.

Close-knit Kyogle was rocked by the death.

The prosecution withdrew the charges of murder and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in June last year.

This left Hyde facing a charge of manslaughter.

A week-long District Court trial was held in Lismore.

On Tuesday a 12-person jury found Hyde not guilty.
