Sharks still under ASADA investigation: Perdikogiannis

THE Cronulla Sharks remain under the glare of the Australian Anti-Sports Doping Authority, it has been revealed in Senate estimates.

Media reports earlier this month suggested ASADA had abandoned its investigation of the NRL club over suspected drug use.

But under questioning from Liberal Senator Gary Humphries, ASADA's general manager of anti-doping programs and legal services, Elen Perdikogiannis, denied this was the case.

"The investigation has not ceased. ASADA is pursuing other lines of inquiry," Ms Perdikogiannis told the Rural and Regional Affairs committee.

Ms Perdikogiannis confirmed no players from either the NRL or AFL had been served with an infraction notice for doping violations since February.

It was also revealed that ASADA had interviewed 113 people - including players, support staff and third parties - since the release of the Australian Crime Commission report in February.

ASADA CEO Aurora Andruska could not say how many people would be interviewed.

She said it was "early days" when ASDA said in February it expected to interview 150 people, adding it was the "best estimate" at the time.

"We are learning things as we go along and I would expect that we will continue to," Ms Andruska said.
