Shark attacks man off Central Queensland coast

A SHARK has attacked a man off the coast of Yeppoon, Queensland Ambulance says.

The 30-year-old man is reported to have been bitten and could have lacerations to his hands.

It's believed the incident occurred while the man was spearfishing near Miall Island, off Great Keppell Island, off the Capricorn Coast around noon today, Saturday.

He was treated at Yeppoon before being transferred by road to Rockhampton Base Hospital.

Flotilla Commander Arthur Hunt told The Morning Bulletin the Coast Guard was training in Keppel Bay when they got the call and were able to get a boat to the island quickly.

Coast Guard crew administered first aid on board as they transported the man back to Rosslyn Bay.
