Marijuana research shares rise

MUM and dad shareholders investing in medical marijuana research may seem far-fetched, but that appears to be the case with one US biotech company.

Cannabis Science Inc, whose president and CEO Dr Bob Melamede was the main speaker at this year’s MardiGrass, saw its stocks rise 10.71 per cent this week following a surge in public interest in its pharmaceutical cannabis products reputed to have anti-aging and anti-cancer properties.

On Thursday respected online stock market analysis website Market Watch (through the Wall Street Journal), reported the pioneering company had established a dedicated communication department in response to increased public inquiries.

The company announced that the service was designed to enhance the company’s online presence through its website content, interactivity and social media networking.

Market Watch reports the increased interest follows aseries of recent speaking engagements at medical marijuana events around the world, kicking off at Nimbin’s now famous cannabis rally.
