Severe thunderstorm warning for the Northern Rivers

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the Northern Rivers, including Casino, Kyogle, Tabulam, Rappville, Whiporie and Tenterfield.

Large hailstones, heavy rainfall and damaging winds can be expected over the next few hours.

The weather bureau has warned that the storms are likely to produce large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.

The State Emergency Service has advised that people should move cars under cover or away from trees; secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; keep clear of fallen power lines; keep clear of creeks and storm drains; don't walk, drive or ride through flood water.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5.40pm.
